Photo Contest Yeilds to big Trees and Kayaks!

We were all eager to open up that suggestion box last week to get the final count of votes for the photo contest hosted by Rec Programs.

Coming in First place for the employee catagory was Katie Regan as she amazed us all with the giant circumference of a tree in Rumney.

Jeremy Breton raced into first place in the patron category. His picture was taken one night on Northwood Lake in New Hampshire as he and his friend toggled with several different ideas for unique and interesting photos.  His photo was certainly unique! Also in his photo was Nick Fittz (in the air) Jeremy in the boat.

Thanks to all who participated, we had fun with the contest!  A picture is worth 1000 words, so be sure to get out and enjoy the fresh spring air and snap some shots!

Pizza Party Feedback!

We had a great turn out for our pizza party last Wednesday night! An open discussion was held in the weight room where we opened the floor to the students and we certainly received some valuable feedback of how our facility can be improved. Here’s some of the topics that we discussed.

1)      Ways to create a more effective free weight management system.

2)      Keeping jump ropes behind the fitness room desk to prevent theft

3)      Attaining more core balance equipment

4)      Creative ways to re-rack the weights

5)      Putting up more visual entertainment in the cardio section

6)      Moving the Leg lift machine to the cardio side of the fitness room

7)      Buying new dumb bells

8)      Bigger trash barrels for the fitness room

9)      Organizing the free weights by amount

10)  Sanitation

11)   More Group X classes

These are just a handful of things that were suggested and we will be working towards all of them. If you have any more suggestions, please feel free to comment to this blog posting, or write a suggestion in the box in the fitness room!

Have a safe and most of all FUN spring break!

Equipment plugged in and unplugged everywhere

Today, an individual, who did not introduce himself, but I will assume he is a faculty or staff member here at PSU, complained that he was shocked after plugging in a piece of cardio equipment in the Cardio Theater.  He assures me that the Cardio Theater was a mess with equipment plugged in and unplugged everywhere.  So, per his request, I sent one of our staff members to escort him and plug in the piece of equipment that he needed so he can get his workout in.  In addition, I went upstairs to see the mess that he was talking about (see pictures).

Although, some machines that were out of order, were not plugged in I could not find the mess he was talking about nor any potential hazard to patrons.  I have requested signs for the Cardio Theater with the following information” For your Safety, please do not unplug or plug in any machines” I can control what my group of staff does in the facility, but I cannot control what patrons are doing.  I am looking for solutions to avoid people getting shocked when unplugging and plugging in equipment. Now, I open this to you, what else can we do, so patrons do not get shocked in the fitness room or Cardio Theater?
